1986-90 LANDCRUISER HJ60 12H-T ENGINE 3980CC 6 CYLINDER TURBO OHV The Toyota 12HT was most popular in the HJ61 series Landcruiser wagon. This factory turbo, straight 6 cylinder push rod engine with direct injection produced an estimated 170-180 hp making it a pleasure to drive. This mid 80s model engine is still available in Japan and makes for a great conversion into the HJ60 or HJ75 wagon and tray back, replacing the 2H diesel. The 12HT fuel system is a little different to its baby brother the 2H, where the fuel is controlled by a governor in the rear of the pump, making it a very responsive and torquey engine. The pistons in the 12HT are a lot stronger and run a steel insert between the no. 1 and 2 piston rings as the standard 2H over time developed some movement. Transplanting a 12HT into your cruiser is very simple with very little needed to be changed. The gearbox bolt up is the same, and the engine mounts will swap to suit both the wagon and tray back. A HJ61 air induction hose and throttle cable will be needed, but this can be sorted straight away from any Toyota Dealer. So if you are tired of your Landcruiser lagging on hills and looking for a few more horsepower then the 12HT is the engine for you.
